Lay by pothole

Pulled off main road into a lay by and hit deep pothole. There was one hell of a bang as my nearside front wheel (a brand new tyre by the way - cost nearly 200 pounds ) hit this hole.
I couldnt see any damage at the time but a week or so later the side wall had a bulge and I have just had to have a new tyre tracking and balance at nearly 250 pounds.
